Today is the 132nd birth anniversary of Chairman Mao Zedong. To mark this occasion, The Partisan is honored to publish a document by the Center for the Study of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, titled “A Brief Timeline of Socialist Construction in China and the Lessons of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution”. The authors briefly outlined the history of the Chinese revolution and the People’s Republic of China from 1949 to 1976, with the focus on the struggles between two lines: the proletarian revolutionaries under the leadership of Chairman Mao on one hand, and those who try to revise Marxism and restore capitalism on the other. In this period, China rose from a poor, semi-feudal and semi-colonial country to a powerful nation ruled by the workers and peasants, as well as a base area and great friend of all oppressed people of the world.
Despite the defeat of the Chinese revolution in 1976, Chairman Mao’s comprehensive contribution to Marxism – known as Maoism – left a lasting impact on all those who struggle for freedom, independence and liberation around the globe. Because of this, the birth anniversary of Chairman Mao continues to be celebrated internationally. For example, on 1969, the Communist Party of the Philippines was reestablished on this day, who will go on to lead a National Democratic Revolution until this day. The International Communist League, an international grouping of more than 15 Maoist Parties and organizations, was also founded on this day in 2022. In China itself, progressives and revolutionaries gather on this day every year as a reminder to struggle against the revisionists.
