As part of our new push for more systematic social investigation/class analysis (SICA), and a better application of the mass line, recently on January 25th, Rising Tide Columbus hosted a community craft night aimed at highlighting and discussing the many issues we, the workers and the oppressed, face in our city. As part of this event organizers also collected donations for the homeless community in our city. This event lead to very good discussion about the need and desire for immigration defense work. Among attendees there was a lot of support and enthusiasm for the discussion of what should be done to combat the ongoing capitalist offensive against immigrant workers and communities.
Based off of this feedback and investigation Rising Tide is now putting a heavy focus on the struggle of immigrants in the current period, and we have been able to mobilize new supporters and members from this new push. We have a know-your-rights training at the end of this month, which is aimed at providing educational resources surrounding ICE and deportations, and building stronger community ties. This training will be only the beginning of our campaign. We are aiming to build our organization into a struggle based organization that can take up the task of defending the rights and well-being of immigrants, as well as all the oppressed and exploited masses in our neighborhoods and communities, without getting trapped in the deadend of legalism.
These two events are just the newest in a series of consistent semi weekly public studies and mass meetings we have been holding for over a full year that have brought in many new supporters and members, while allowing us all to collectively learn and struggle with one another in a principled way.
