We are excited to share that the class-conscious workers at the shop organization Barista’s Voice have a launched a new website to share editions of their shop paper, as well as provide an easy way to reach out and get connected with them. Barista’s Voice is the embryonic center for the currently disorganized class-conscious opposition within the formerly independent union Starbucks Workers United, a union which has now been fully integrated into the sell-out Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Their website is https://baristasvoice.wordpress.com/.
Barista’s Voice is an affiliate of the new national class-conscious labor organization, the New Labor Organizing Committee (NLOC).
On the website you can find the PDF of their first edition How the SEIU Cannot Be Trusted: The Need For an Independent Union Movement, which details the major issues facing Starbucks Workers now that their union leadership has sold them out to the state union apparatus via affiliating to SEIU. In their own words:
“How can Starbucks workers trust an organization with a track record of defending embezzlers and sex pests? Why would anyone trust this organization to protect workers from belligerent customers or management? Why should they trust a union that has millions invested into the very company they are struggling against, and that has repeatedly defended sex offenders within its ranks? Who would trust the NLRB to have their best interests at heart when it has been shown to serve corporate interests? Call to action: Starbucks workers have to go their own way, independent of the NLRB and of SEIU. Their union must be by Starbucks workers and for Starbucks workers, not for bureaucrats or corporate interests.”
