Michiana Friends of Palestine condemns the UN Security Council vote to approve the so-called “Gaza Peace Plan”. Drafted by US President Trump, the plan is not a step towards just peace but towards further dispossession, displacement, and genocide forced upon Palestinians. The “peace plan” was passed by the United States and its rival powers, China and Russia, united in depriving the Palestinian people of any input.

The plan provides for a so-called “Board of Peace” to take administration of Gaza; leadership of the board was granted by Trump to himself. We question how he can possibly bring peace to Palestine while unleashing violence and fascistization in the country he leads, as we see in the ruthless destruction targeting the oppressed nations of the United States. The other stated member of the “Board of Peace” is former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who ordered the British military into combat on five occasions, more than any other Prime Minister. These deployments exclusively targeted the semi-colonies of the Third World. Another provision of the plan is the “demilitarization” of Gaza. At the same time, China and Russia, both members of the UN Security Council and both with inextricable military and financial ties to Israel, quietly endorsed this proposal by refusing to exercise their veto power, capitulating to the oppression of the Palestinian people. We see the true purpose of this as being the disarmament of Palestinians and their leadership as expressed in the Resistance, giving yet another green light for Israel to carry out genocide.

The stated end goal of this plan is for Gaza to be governed by the so-called “Palestinian Authority” (PA), a weak Quisling authority. Under the “governance” of the PA the West Bank is subjected to constant violence by settlers and the Israeli Defense Force. The so-called “Palestinian Security Services” under control of the PA openly collaborate with the IDF and the US in oppressing the Palestinian people in the West Bank. The true purpose of the plan is revealed in Point 9: “This body will call on best international standards to create modern and efficient governance that serves the people of Gaza and is conducive to attracting investment.” The plan is centered not around bringing just peace to the region, but to clearing the way for foreign imperialists to plunder Gaza’s economy. Later on in Point 11 this is further clarified: “A special economic zone will be established with preferred tariff and access rates to be negotiated with participating countries.”

The “International Stabilization Forces” provided for in the plan are nothing more than a change in the form of the occupation, from being administered by the IDF to the military forces of various complicit Arab states, including the United Arab Emirates, which has been carrying out its own genocide against Yemen. Similarly, the US designated Saudi Arabia a major non-NATO ally on Tuesday.

Even with the plan’s imperialist motives, we expect that Israel will reject it. We remember that the “ceasefire” currently in place has already been violated countless times by Israel, including through military actions and the withholding of humanitarian aid, with 242 Palestinians being killed since the “ceasefire” took effect in at least 282 separate violations as reported by Al Jazeera.

We reaffirm that our compass in standing in solidarity with Palestine is al-Thawabet (fundamental principles). We will continue standing with the Palestinians and their leadership, and reject any machinations for the future of Palestine which do not provide for:

• The right to resistance
• The right to self-determination
• Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine
• The right to return
